The date, the tree, and how long it stays up

The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree page, read on 27 Oct 2026, says the 2026 tree arrives on 7 November and is lit during the annual ceremony on 2 December, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. The same page calls it a 76 foot Norway spruce from West Edmeston, New York, with more than 50,000 multicolored LED lights under a Swarovski star. It says the tree is on view through mid January 2027, and it tells visitors to check back for visiting hours.

The Center's magazine piece, Meet the 2026 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree, is dated 26 October 2026. It repeats the 7 November arrival, the West Edmeston origin, and the Wednesday 2 December ceremony from 7 to 10 p.m. It adds that the tree is about 75 years old, about 50 feet in diameter, and about 11 tons, and that the lights run along about five miles of wire. It describes the star as a Swarovski star designed by Daniel Libeskind in 2018, about 900 pounds, with 70 spikes and three million crystals. It also says Meet the Tree Day returns for a second year on the arrival day, with family friendly activities and a Holiday Workshop presented by Care Bears and FAO Schwarz. Those pages do not print a start time for Meet the Tree Day.

Two details in wider coverage are softer than the Center's own lines. NBC New York, published 26 October 2026, reported that crews were expected to cut the tree on 5 November, and that the tree would be on display until 9 January. Rockefeller Center's tree page and magazine do not print a cut date. They print the 7 November arrival. They also do not print 9 January. They print "through mid January 2027." This guide uses the Center's wording for the end of the visit, and it treats 5 November and 9 January as NBC New York reports, not as dates on rockefellercenter.com.

After the season, the magazine says the tree is milled and donated to Habitat for Humanity. That is the Center's account of what happens when the visit ends.

Lighting night: arrival, where to stand, and NBC

The ceremony Rockefeller Center has published is Wednesday 2 December 2026, from 7 to 10 p.m. Eastern Time, at Rockefeller Center. A skating guide updated in September 2026 places the campus between Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue, from 48th Street to 51st Street, with The Rink between 49th and 50th Streets. That is the map the Center has actually printed. As of 27 Oct 2026 the tree page had not published an arrival time, a bag rule, or a chart of where the public may stand. Do not treat a crowd tip from a prior year as this year's instruction. Check the tree page again in the days before 2 December.

What the Center does say about seeing the tree: from the Plaza, from The Rink, or with a Holiday Top of the Rock ticket that combines the observation deck with up close tree access. The September skating guide says The Rink runs through 27 March 2027 and is closed on 1 and 2 December for the tree lighting. The live ticket page, read on 27 Oct 2026, says the rink is open, lists daily hours of 9 a.m. to midnight, and says hours vary on holidays and special events. It does not repeat the 1 and 2 December closure. If you wanted to skate on lighting night, recheck that calendar. The September note is the only closure we found, and the live page has not confirmed it.

Top of the Rock is the closer look the Center sells, and the dates on the ticket cards start the day after the lighting. The September guide says every Top of the Rock ticket from 3 December 2026 through 2 January 2027 includes the Tree Viewing Experience. Holiday cards on the tree page list a Christmas Tree Experience from 3 December through 3 January. Those end dates do not match. Read the ticket you are about to buy. The dollar lines on the tree page were attached to repeated product cards in a way we will not quote. The official page is the price. Lighting night itself is the plaza ceremony. The dated tree access on those cards is the plan for 3 December onward.

Watching on NBC is the plan when the plaza has no published standing map. NBC New York, on 26 October 2026, called 2 December the night of the official "Christmas in Rockefeller Center" live show. It did not print an air time. On 27 Oct 2026, the NBC show page and the NBC Insider note for 2025 still described last year's special: 8 p.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday 3 December 2025, on NBC and Peacock, with a host and a performer list for that year only. We did not find a 2026 start time, host, or performer list on nbc.com. The 2025 clock is not the 2026 clock. Rockefeller Center's 7 to 10 p.m. window is the ceremony. Recheck nbc.com before you plan the evening around a channel.

Luxury hotels a short walk from the tree and the Fifth Avenue windows

The hotels below were open on their official sites when we read those sites on 27 Oct 2026. Each site offers a way to reserve or inquire. A name is not a rate and not a room for December. Rockefeller Center's own guide puts the campus between 48th and 51st Streets. The Saks Fifth Avenue release of 13 October 2026, linked below, puts the holiday windows at the New York flagship on Fifth Avenue and does not print a street number. The four doors here sit on or just off Fifth Avenue, north of that campus.

• Baccarat Hotel New York, 28 West 53rd Street, New York, NY 10019. The hotel site prints that address, a hotel phone of +1 212 790 8800, and a reservations phone of +1 844 203 3008. The same page lists rooms, suites, The Grand Salon, a spa and pool, and public events for 28, 30, and 31 October, which is how we treat the hotel as open on this read. West 53rd Street between Fifth and Sixth is two streets north of the 51st Street edge of the campus the Center describes. We do not print a room rate, because the page we read did not state one.
• The St. Regis New York, 2 East 55th Street at Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10022. The Marriott overview, read on 27 Oct 2026, places the hotel at Fifth Avenue and 55th Street and names Rockefeller Center among the nearby sites. Check in is 4:00 p.m. Check out is 12:00 p.m. Pets are not allowed. The hotel does not provide an airport shuttle. Valet is $142.05 a day, as of that overview, from 6 a.m. to midnight, with no in and out privileges, and not available on parade days. Fifth Avenue and 55th Street is a few streets north of the plaza. The overview also lists the Fifth Avenue and 53rd Street subway station and the Fifth Avenue and 59th Street station.
• Aman New York, the Crown Building, 730 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10019, at Fifth Avenue and 57th Street. This hotel is already on the New York and Miami comparison. The official site, read on 27 Oct 2026, describes 83 suites, homes, a spa, and dining, and it lists a reservations phone of +1 646 459 5302. The hotel says a car from Kennedy or Newark takes 45 to 60 minutes, and from LaGuardia 30 to 40 minutes. Those are the hotel's figures. From 57th Street the walk south on Fifth Avenue reaches the plaza in a short stretch of the same avenue. We do not print a nightly rate.
• The Pierre, A Taj Hotel, 2 East 61st Street at Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10065. This is the other Fifth Avenue hotel already on the New York comparison. The official site, read on 27 Oct 2026, offers a way to reserve, places the hotel across from Central Park, and its page schema lists check in at 3:00 p.m. and check out at 12:00 p.m. The homepage advertises a prepay saving of up to 20 percent. That is the hotel's promotion, not a nightly rate, and it can change. From 61st Street to the 51st Street edge of the campus is ten blocks south on Fifth Avenue. That is a longer walk than Baccarat, St. Regis, or Aman. It is still a Fifth Avenue walk to the windows and the tree, which is why it stays in this set.

Two other New York hotels on that comparison stay off this list. The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel is at 35 East 76th Street. Four Seasons Hotel New York Downtown is at 27 Barclay Street in Tribeca. Both were open when that guide was written. Neither address is a walk to the plaza or to the Fifth Avenue flagship windows, so this page does not use them for a tree week. Keep them when the trip is the Upper East Side or Tribeca.

A 3 night December itinerary

This is a shape for Thursday 10 December through Sunday 13 December 2026, inside the week below. It assumes you want the lit tree, the windows, The Rink, and Radio City, and that the ceremony crowd is not the point. Nothing here is a held room, a show seat, or a skate time.

Thursday 10 December. Arrive and walk Fifth Avenue. On 13 October 2026, Saks Fifth Avenue said its New York flagship holiday windows and light show would be unveiled on 23 November, presented by Bread Financial. The release says the six center windows show an animated journey through New York, and it does not print a nightly clock or a closing date. Recheck Saks before you go out for the light show. Then see the lit tree from the plaza. The tree has been illuminated since 2 December, on the Center's calendar. This is not lighting night, so you are not waiting on a standing map the Center has not published.

Friday 11 December. Skate in the morning if the ticket calendar has a time. The September guide quotes the Center's own host, who prefers mornings because the ice is quieter, and late evening as the next choice. As of 27 Oct 2026 the ticket page lists General Skate from $22 and VIP Skate from $131. The September guide listed VIP Skate from $112. Use the live calendar. The same ticket page, on this read, places the entrance under 30 Rock, next to Daily Provisions. The September guide says that temporary entrance runs through 13 November, and that from 14 November the entrance is the Skate House on 49th Street between Fifth and Sixth. By 11 December the later entrance should be the one in use, if that note holds. Confirm it on the ticket page.

That evening, the Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall. The Rockettes say the 2026 show runs 4 November 2026 through 4 January 2027, with 230 performances, and that tickets are on sale at rockettes.com/christmas. The hall is at 1260 Avenue of the Americas. The FAQ says the show is 90 minutes with no intermission, doors open one hour before, and guests should arrive no later than 30 minutes before the start. Entrances are on 50th Street and 51st Street east of Sixth Avenue, and through the box office lobby on Sixth Avenue between those streets. That door is a short walk from the plaza and from the 53rd and 55th Street hotels. An MSG Entertainment release on 23 July 2026 said in person tickets started at $50 and online tickets started at $55, including a $5 service charge. The calendar says prices, dates, and times can change. As of 23 July 2026 is the right label on those starting figures, not a price for 11 December.

Saturday 12 December. Book a Holiday Top of the Rock ticket and read whether that date includes the tree. Both published windows, 3 December through 2 January and 3 December through 3 January, include 12 December. Then leave on Sunday 13 December. A ceremony trip is a different shape: Tuesday 1 December through Friday 4 December, with Wednesday 2 December as the night, the rink possibly closed on the first two days, and no published place to stand. We would not use that shape unless the lighting itself is the reason for the trip.

The best week to visit

The week of Monday 7 December through Sunday 13 December 2026 is the week this guide recommends when you want the pieces together.

• The tree is already lit. The ceremony was Wednesday 2 December. You are there for the lit tree, after the ceremony crowd.
• The Saks flagship windows were unveiled on 23 November, on Saks' own release. A closing date was not in that release.
• Radio City's published run, 4 November 2026 through 4 January 2027, covers the week.
• The Rink has been open since 10 October, on the September guide, and the only closure we found is 1 and 2 December. Those days are already past in this week. Recheck the ticket calendar anyway.
• Holiday Top of the Rock tree access, on both date ranges the Center has printed, has started.
• The heavier outbound days on the Christmas travel 2026 guide are an expectation for 19 December through 23 December, drawn from 2025 notes, not a 2026 TSA forecast. This week sits before that cluster. It is not a claim that a room is cheaper or still open.

Come the week of 2 December if the ceremony is the point, and use NBC once the network posts a 2026 time. Come after Christmas, and before the Center's mid January line, if a quieter plaza matters more than Radio City, which ends on 4 January 2027.
