Best luxury neighborhoods for a splurge

Historic District squares

The square grid is the walkable luxury core when the trip is live oaks, a planned dinner, and one intentional loop from the river side of town down toward Forsyth Park. It is a weak place to assume River Street quiet, and it is a weak place to assume a Tybee morning is downstairs. The blocks are flat and close. An ordinary Tuesday is a different city from the weekend before St. Patrick's Day, when the City of Savannah parade page has already shown that Bay Street and the route can close and that cars left on the street can be towed. Ask for a courtyard, an upper floor, or a room off the square if you came for the walk and not for the soundtrack. We do not invent a noise score. Visit Savannah is the wide visitor map. The hotel pages below are the sleep decision.

The Perry Lane Hotel, at 256 East Perry Street, is the larger square grid hotel in this set. The hotel's own FAQ says it has 167 guest rooms, including 12 suites. The same page says check in begins at 4:00 p.m., check out is 11:00 a.m., and guests must be 21. A cancellation has to arrive 48 hours before check in or the fee is one night of room and tax. Prepaid rates are not cancellable. The hotel is smoke free, and the FAQ lists a $250 recovery fee for smoking in a guest room. Dogs up to 50 pounds are welcome for $200, with a bed and bowls in the room. The destination amenity fee page says the hotel charges $32 plus tax per room per day. The page lists, for double occupancy, sparkling wine or nonalcoholic drinks, drip coffee, a bicycle, car service within two miles, a cookie, PressReader, enhanced internet, shoe shine, and a fitness class discount with a local studio. That is a fee with a list attached, not a reason to skip reading the total. The FAQ also says the hotel has a rooftop pool and lounge. Peregrin is the rooftop. The Wayward is the bar. The Emporium Kitchen and Wine Market is the all day room. The hotel's site calls itself part of Marriott's Luxury Collection. Its pages also say it has earned a Michelin Key. That is the hotel's claim. We do not audit awards, and we do not copy a key onto the card below.

Parking at Perry Lane is a page that disagrees with itself, which is why the number belongs in the decision and not in a slogan. One FAQ answer, labeled as updated valet and electric vehicle rates, says valet is $60 per night plus tax, and that electric vehicle charging is another $20 per night on top of valet. A later answer on the same FAQ says overnight valet is $52 per night with in and out privileges, and that wedding event parking is $20 a car. Both answers say self parking in local lots can add in and out charges, and that street parking around the hotel is limited. We are not choosing $60 over $52. Read the live FAQ before you compare Perry Lane with a hotel that prints one number. The same FAQ describes Savannah Hilton Head International Airport as 13 miles away and a taxi at about $30 one way. It also says a hotel car is complimentary, first come, within about two miles of the Historic District. Those are the page's planning notes. East Perry Street is south of the river and north of Forsyth Park, inside the square grid. It is not a River Street door, and it is not a Forsyth Park lawn. A rooftop request and a courtyard request are different rooms. Ask which one you are buying.

The Drayton Hotel, at 7 Drayton Street, is the small house in this set. The homepage says the hotel has 50 luxury rooms and suites in a 19th century building, with St. Neo's Brasserie, The Vinyl Room, and Pendant Terrace and Bar on the roof. The rooms page says bedroom sizes run from 210 to 370 square feet and that rooms look toward City Hall, the Savannah River, and the surrounding historic neighborhood. Fifty rooms is a different inventory problem from Perry Lane's 167. A parade weekend or a small wedding can take the useful room while a larger hotel still shows space. The site footer links to Hilton and shows a Curio logo, and the Hilton address on that footer is the hotel's Hilton page. Book on thedraytonhotel.com. We do not publish a valet rate, a destination fee, a pet fee, or a cancellation window, because the pages we could read did not print figures we are willing to freeze. Call the hotel at the number on its site, or read the total on the page you book. Seven Drayton Street is the north end of the grid, beside City Hall, which means the river walk is short and the parade closure on Bay Street is not theoretical. Ask for a room off the liveliest side if the dome view is the outing and not the bedroom. This is not a pool resort. If a pool is the July plan, look at the hotels that describe one.

Andaz Savannah, at 14 Barnard Street, is the Ellis Square hotel. Hyatt's 20 September 2012 opening release said the hotel opened in the former Avia Savannah, across from Ellis Square, with 151 guestrooms and suites, steps from City Market and Broughton Street. A 2023 Hyatt fact sheet still describes a 151 room hotel on Ellis Square at Bryan and Barnard, with a heated pool, a 24 hour gym, in room dining, and valet parking. The fact sheet does not print a valet price we are willing to freeze, so we do not publish one. The 2012 release introduced a restaurant called 22 Square. We did not read a current dining page on the live Hyatt site, which blocked an automated fetch. Ask the hotel what is open on your dates rather than assuming a 2012 restaurant name is tonight's room service. Ellis Square and City Market are the reason to stay here. The cobblestones of River Street are a short walk, not the lobby. Broughton Street shopping is the other walk the opening release named. A square facing room is the postcard and the noise. Ask which category faces the square if sleep matters as much as City Market.

Kimpton Brice Hotel, at 601 East Bay Street, is the Washington Square house. The hotel's own homepage says it is nestled in Washington Square off Bay Street and Houston Street, and that it is a boutique hotel with 145 rooms. It describes a courtyard garden in a former horse livery, with trees, a fire pit, and open sky, and it points at Pacci for dining and Daisy Pool Bar for the water. The same page treats St. Patrick's Day and a walk to River Street as reasons people choose the block. That is useful and it is also the warning. Washington Square is the northeast corner of the historic grid. Bay Street is the loud edge on a parade morning, and the city page for 2026 said Bay Street would close for the parade at 9:00 a.m. One hundred forty five rooms is larger than The Drayton and smaller than a convention hotel. A festival Saturday can still sell the courtyard room you wanted. The site is the official booking path, and reservations also sit in IHG, which is the brand system rather than a third party agency. We do not publish a current valet rate or a pet fee, because the pages we could read did not print one we are willing to freeze. Read the total before you compare Brice with Perry Lane's conflicting valet answers. Ask which rooms face Bay Street and which face the garden if the pool is the outing and the bedroom is not.

South Historic and the Victorian edge

South of the densest river blocks, the grid gets quieter in the way porches and gardens are quieter, and then it meets Forsyth Park. That edge is the right sleep when you want the squares in walking or shuttle range and you do not want a Bay Street bedroom. It is the wrong sleep if you wanted to step out onto River Street for every meal. Smaller inns operate on the Victorian streets. They are a different product from the hotels named here, and we did not add one unless its official site gave us a bookable luxury or boutique page we could verify on 15 October 2026. Use this part of town as an evening from Hotel Bardo, or as a long walk south from Perry Lane. Do not book a river balcony and expect a silent porch on a side street south of Gaston. The park is the landmark. The side streets are the outing.

Hotel Bardo Savannah, at 700 Drayton Street, is the Forsyth Park resort in this set. The homepage describes an urban resort and a neighborhood clubhouse on the park, with Saint Bibiana, Bar Bibi, and The Green Room. The FAQ says check in is 4 p.m., check out is 11 a.m., and guests must be 21. A government photo ID is required. Cancellation or a change is free up to 48 hours before arrival. Inside that window, or on a no show, the fee is one night. An early departure on a refundable rate follows that same 48 hour rule. A nonrefundable rate keeps the whole stay if you leave early. The FAQ says the hotel will authorize the stay plus an additional $150 per night for incidentals. There is a 25 meter heated outdoor pool. Pool access is for resort guests and club members. Saltgrass Spa is on the lower level and takes outside appointments. The fitness center is open 24 hours for guests and members. Room service runs 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Smoking in a room draws a $500 cleaning fee on the FAQ. Cribs are complimentary when available. The hotel does not offer rollaway beds. The rooms page says the hotel has been recognized with a Michelin Key. That is the hotel's claim. We do not audit it.

Hotel Bardo's fees are specific, and two of them disagree across pages, which is the reason to read both before you pay. The FAQ says a destination amenity fee of $49 plus tax per night includes morning coffee, tea, and pastries in The Green Room, access to Club Bardo, fitness classes, half off admission to the SCAD Museum of Art, gear to borrow, premium wireless, and the house car. The guest directory says valet at the main entrance is $55 per night on weekdays and $60 on weekends. The FAQ answers the same valet question with $60 per night and says street parking is widely available around the resort. We are not flattening those into one number. The FAQ says the hotel allows dogs, not other pets, that dogs may not be left alone in the room, and that a nonrefundable fee of $200 per stay applies, with a weight limit described on that page. The directory's pet notes list a $50 cleaning fee per stay and say pets are not allowed in dining outlets, the pool, or the fitness facilities. Read both pages if a dog is coming. The directory contact line prints 700 Drayton Street with ZIP 31410, and the site footer prints the same street with ZIP 31401. Confirm the pin. We do not publish a room count, because the live hotel pages we could read did not state one we are willing to freeze. Older lodging lists may still say Mansion on Forsyth Park for this park address. The bookable site we opened is staybardo.com. A park facing room is the reason many people choose Bardo. The pool deck and the club are the reason to ask whether you wanted that soundtrack in the bedroom.

Riverfront and Factors Walk

The river side of downtown is River Street on the cobblestones, Factors Walk and Bay Street on the bluff above it, and the blocks that face the water rather than a square. It is the right luxury core when ships, a rooftop, and one loud night are the point. It is a weak place to assume Forsyth Park hush. Patios, trolleys, and bachelor parties stack on the water. The Drayton neighborhood page itself lists Factors Walk, the river, and the cathedral walk as part of the same downtown day, which is the right reading: you can sleep on Bay Street and still walk south. You should not pretend a Bay Street balcony is a courtyard on Perry Street. Hotel Orielle, at 102 West Bay Street, is the Bay Street pick. The hotel's own homepage says it was formerly the Bohemian Hotel Savannah Riverfront, and that it is an Autograph Collection hotel. It describes river view rooms and corner rooms over the Historic District, Coastal 15 for Lowcountry dining, and Rocks on the Roof. A Visit Savannah release dated 1 September 2026 said the Bohemian had become Hotel Orielle that day and described 75 guest rooms and suites. Seventy five rooms is the smallest river house in this set. A holiday weekend can sell the river view while The Alida or Thompson still shows inventory. We do not publish a valet rate or a destination fee for Orielle, because the homepage we read did not print one. Read the total on hotelorielle.com. Do not book the old Bohemian name as if it were a second hotel at a second address. The address on the live site is still 102 West Bay Street.

The Alida, Savannah, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, at 412 Williamson Street, is the western riverfront house. The overview describes 173 individually designed rooms and suites, and it also describes 151 guest rooms and 21 suites. Those lines are both the hotel's. Confirm the count on the live page before you treat either number as the inventory left on a Saturday. The rooms page describes a penthouse of about 2,400 square feet with a terrace. The overview lists check in at 4:00 p.m., check out at 11:00 a.m., and a minimum age of 21. It says a daily destination fee of $35 is posted to the room. It says on site parking is valet, with a daily figure of $60, and the same property details also list Sunday through Thursday at $55 a night plus tax, Friday and Saturday at $60 plus tax, and oversized vehicles at $78 plus tax. We are not choosing one valet sentence over the other. The overview says the hotel does not provide an airport shuttle and lists Savannah Hilton Head International Airport as 6.0 miles away. Perry Lane's FAQ, for a downtown door farther east, says 13 miles and about $30 by taxi. Use both as the hotels' notes. They do not match because they measure different doors, and one of them may simply be a short planning figure. Williamson Street sits by Plant Riverside, the district of restaurants and the old power plant west of the historic core. City Market is a river walk or a ride, not the two minute step Andaz has to Ellis Square. The overview and photo labels point at The Trade Room, a rooftop, and a pool deck. Ask which rooms face the river if the water is the view and not the bedroom you needed for sleep.

Eastern Wharf

Thompson Savannah is the Eastern Wharf lifestyle hotel. Hyatt's 2 August 2021 opening release called it the brand's first hotel in Georgia, at the junction of the Historic District and Eastern Wharf, on the Savannah River. The release described 193 guestrooms including 21 suites, a tower set perpendicular to the river so rooms look west toward the city or east toward the river and the islands, a second floor pool deck with a splash pool and cabanas, and 10,000 square feet of event space. It named Fleeting as the signature restaurant, Bar Julian as the rooftop, and the Sunroom as the poolside lounge, with executive chef Robert Newton. The release told guests to book at thompsonsavannah.com or by phone. That domain now redirects into Hyatt. The URL in the pick below is the Hyatt page. We did not find a closure notice as of 15 October 2026. We also could not read the live Hyatt page in this check, because the site blocked the fetch. A 2021 restaurant list is not a promise that Fleeting, Bar Julian, and the Sunroom are all open on your Friday. Ask before you pay. We do not publish a street number, a valet rate, or a destination fee, because the opening release did not give figures we are willing to freeze and the live page did not load for us. Eastern Wharf is the right splurge when you want a newer waterfront and you will walk or ride west into the squares. It is the wrong splurge if you wanted a door on a square tonight. One hundred ninety three rooms, if that 2021 count still holds, is a larger house than Orielle's 75 and The Drayton's 50. Confirm the count if your trip depends on how fast the hotel sells out.

Forsyth Park as its own night

Forsyth Park is not a footnote to the squares. It is a long rectangle of oaks, a fountain, and a Saturday farmers market, and it changes the hotel math. Hotel Bardo is the only Noravelle pick with a park address. Perry Lane can walk south to the park. The Drayton, Andaz, Brice, Orielle, and The Alida make the park a planned outing. Thompson makes it a longer one, because Eastern Wharf is the far side of the river walk. The DOT shuttle is the free tool for this distance while it runs. Chatham Area Transit lists the DOT Express Shuttle on weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on weekends from 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. A dinner reservation after 6:30 p.m. on Saturday is not a DOT plan. It is a walk, a ride, or a hotel car where a hotel actually offers one. Bardo's amenity fee includes a house car. Perry Lane's fee includes car service within about two miles, first come. Neither is a promise of a car at the minute you want it. If the park is the morning and the river is the night, sleep at Bardo and go north once. If the river is every meal, do not sleep at the park and call it the same trip.

Midtown, Starland, and Thomas Square

Midtown, the Starland District, and Thomas Square are real parts of a Savannah week, and none of them are where these hotels sleep. Starland is the coffee and gallery walk south of the park that Hotel Bardo's own FAQ names as a stroll. Thomas Square and the streets toward Victory Drive are residential and restaurant blocks, not a second historic grid with a luxury hotel we left off the page. Bull Street keeps going south. That is a ride or a long walk, not a substitute address for Perry Lane. Sleep at Hotel Bardo if you want the closest luxury base to that southern walk. Sleep in the square grid if the river and the cathedral are the day and Starland is one outing. There is no Noravelle pick in a Midtown tower, because the luxury and boutique houses we could verify on official sites are downtown, on the river, at Eastern Wharf, or on the park. If every smaller room downtown is gone for a festival, the larger downtown and river hotels are the inventory, not a reason to invent a luxury inn on a Midtown arterial.

Tybee Island

Tybee Island is the Atlantic beach for this map, east of town on the islands road. It is a day from a downtown hotel, and it is a poor walking base for Forsyth Park and the squares. None of the Noravelle picks sleep on Tybee. That is a choice, not a missing resort we forgot to name. A beach hotel on the island is a different product: sand at the end of the day, and a car or a scheduled ride back if you also want a square. The city's 2026 parade materials listed a Tybee shuttle on parade day, which tells you the island is part of the civic weekend and not a quiet escape hatch you should assume is empty. We do not publish a drive time. Perry Lane's own site sells a Tybee oyster experience as an outing, which is the right shape: sleep in town, go to the water once. If the trip is mostly the beach, say so when you choose, and do not book a Bay Street balcony as if it were a dune. Summer heat makes the beach practical and the midday square walk harder. Ask your own clinician before a long uncovered afternoon. We do not publish a forecast.

Near SAV

Full service hotels beside Savannah Hilton Head International Airport suit a dawn departure or a late landing. They are logistics for the flight, separate from a square, river, Eastern Wharf, or Forsyth Park splurge. None of the Noravelle picks sleep in an airport corridor. Chatham Area Transit says Route 3 West Chatham still connects the airport with the Joe Murray Rivers, Jr. Intermodal Transit Center in downtown Savannah, and that the ride is a regular route, not a direct airport shuttle. The same page, describing service from 31 August 2026, says one weekday bus was eliminated all day, with tripper hours of 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., and no weekend change in that note. The fare page lists a one way local fare of $1.50, free transfers, and a day pass of $3.00. There is no train into the city. Perry Lane's taxi figure of about $30 is the hotel's note, not a meter we watched. The Alida's 6.0 mile airport line is the overview's note, and it does not match Perry Lane. Use an airport hotel only when the flight sets the night, then move to the neighborhood that fits the rest of the trip.

How to choose

Pick the job of the trip before you compare suite photos. A square grid weekend with a rooftop and a listed destination fee wants Perry Lane. A small City Hall house with roof views and no pool we could verify wants The Drayton. An Ellis Square and City Market base wants Andaz Savannah. A Washington Square courtyard near Bay Street and River Street wants Kimpton Brice. A Bay Street riverfront house, under the new Orielle name, wants Hotel Orielle. A western riverfront house beside Plant Riverside wants The Alida. An Eastern Wharf lifestyle hotel wants Thompson Savannah, after you ask which 2021 restaurants are open. A Forsyth Park resort with a 25 meter pool wants Hotel Bardo. Victorian side streets, Starland, Midtown, Tybee, and the airport are outings or flight nights. They are not missing luxury hotels on this page.

Smaller hotels sell out first. The Drayton describes 50 rooms. Visit Savannah described 75 at Hotel Orielle. Kimpton Brice describes 145. Andaz materials describe 151. Perry Lane describes 167, including 12 suites. The Alida overview describes 173 and also 151 plus 21 suites. Hyatt's 2021 release described 193 at Thompson, including 21 suites. We are not publishing a room count for Hotel Bardo. A larger hotel can still show rooms when a 50 room house is gone. The table is an editorial fit guide, not a ranking and not a price list. Who each area suits

Use this as a shortlist, then read the neighborhood essay above for the tradeoff. Victorian side streets, Starland, Midtown, Tybee, and the airport are real places. They are not where these hotels sleep. Eastern Wharf and Forsyth Park are different nights from Ellis Square. The Bohemian name is the old name of Hotel Orielle, not a second booking.

Timing, seasonality, and event weekends

St. Patrick's Day is the inventory shock with a map attached. The City of Savannah parade page for 2026 placed the parade on Tuesday 17 March 2026, immediately after Mass at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. It warned that vehicles could be towed from the route, staging, and disband areas as early as 12:01 a.m. on that Tuesday, that the route would close at 8:00 a.m., and that Bay Street would close for the parade at 9:00 a.m. As of 15 October 2026 those hours have passed. The habit of the city is a 17 March parade, and the next calendar can still change the closures even when the date of the holiday does not. Confirm it on savannahga.gov before you hold a prepaid rate for the usual week. Bay Street and River Street hotels feel it first. Brice, Orielle, The Drayton, and Andaz are in that band. Perry Lane is not immune, because the whole grid travels. Hotel Bardo on the park is not on the cobblestones and is still a downtown hotel in a city that fills. A 50 room house can disappear while a larger river hotel still shows inventory. That is a reason to decide the neighborhood early, not a reason to take a rate you cannot cancel if the weekend moves.

Spring and autumn are the walking seasons people mean when they say Savannah, and they are also when festivals stack. Visit Savannah's getting around page names the SCAD Savannah Film Festival, the Savannah Music Festival, and Savannah Holly Days as events that can affect garage and street parking. We do not publish those dates, ticket prices, or a film schedule. If a lighted square or a music week is the reason for the trip, ask the hotel whether your street is in the closure, then read the cancellation window. Thanksgiving week and Christmas week fill smaller hotels for family trips even when no parade is on your street. Squares and a courtyard suit a Christmas walk more than a midnight on River Street. Flight timing for those weeks is on Thanksgiving 2026 and Christmas travel 2026. The later school window is on spring break 2027. All three sit on the holiday and event travel hub. The Savannah weekend trip is the Friday to Sunday pace if the dates are an ordinary weekend rather than a holiday.

Summer is hot, and the pools that hotels actually describe are practical, not a postcard extra. Perry Lane says it has a rooftop pool. Kimpton Brice points at Daisy Pool Bar. Andaz's 2023 fact sheet lists a heated pool. The Alida's materials show a pool deck. Thompson's 2021 release described a second floor splash pool. Hotel Bardo's FAQ describes a 25 meter heated outdoor pool. The Drayton pages we read describe a rooftop bar and do not describe a pool, so a July stay there is a different product. Hotel Orielle describes a roof and does not, on the homepage we read, describe a pool. Plan shade, water, and a lighter first afternoon between the river and Forsyth. If heat already limits your day, ask your own clinician before a long outdoor walk. We do not publish a forecast. A December weekend is the other clock: Holly Days and a square walk, shorter days, and the DOT shuttle still stopping in the early evening. Do not schedule Tybee, a river dinner, and a late park walk on the same arrival night in any season.

Noise, squares, and River Street

River Street is lively because the cobblestones and the bars are the product. Bay Street above it carries the parade, the cars, and the hotel roofs that look at the water. Hotel Orielle and Kimpton Brice sit in that band. The Drayton is a block off City Hall, close enough that a dome view and a parade morning are the same neighborhood. Andaz faces Ellis Square and City Market, which is a social square rather than the river cobblestones, and it is still not a library. Perry Lane on East Perry Street is deeper in the grid. The rooftop, Peregrin, is the lively room there, and a guest room is a separate request. Hotel Bardo is usually the calmer sleep, and the pool, Saint Bibiana, and Club Bardo are still the appeal. Thompson sits at Eastern Wharf, off the densest River Street bars, with a pool deck the 2021 release described. A wedding on that lawn can be its own noise. We do not invent decibel scores.

If you want the river energy for one planned evening, stay at Orielle, Brice, or Andaz and ask for a higher or courtyard room. If you want the cobblestones as an outing and not as a bedroom, sleep at Perry Lane or Hotel Bardo and ride back after the DOT has stopped. If you want the newer waterfront without the historic bar street, sleep at Thompson or The Alida and treat River Street as a walk you chose. Tell the hotel which side you want, and keep that note with the reservation. A phone request that never lands in the booking record is not a plan. Perry Lane's 48 hour rule and Bardo's 48 hour rule are reasons to make the request while the rate is still flexible.

Getting there, parking, and the bus

Parking is a hotel by hotel number, not a citywide one. Perry Lane's FAQ prints valet at $60 plus tax in one answer and $52 with in and out in another, plus $20 a night if you charge an electric car on the updated answer. Hotel Bardo's FAQ prints valet at $60, and the guest directory prints $55 on weekdays and $60 on weekends. The Alida overview prints valet at $60 and also a split of $55 Sunday through Thursday and $60 Friday and Saturday, with oversized vehicles at $78, all plus tax where the split says so. On top of the room, Perry Lane posts a destination amenity fee of $32 plus tax. Bardo posts $49 plus tax. The Alida overview posts $35. We do not publish a valet price for The Drayton, Andaz, Kimpton Brice, Thompson, or Hotel Orielle. A second car, a cabana, a spa treatment, and a late checkout can all sit outside the headline rate. Read the total on each official site. A car is useful for airport luggage, Tybee, and a late Starland dinner. It is a burden on parade day, when the city tows vehicles off the route from 12:01 a.m. and garages change their rules. The 2026 city page set special garage rates for that week. Those dates have passed. Read the next year's page before you assume a downtown garage will take you at a normal weekday price.

The free downtown tool is the DOT Express Shuttle, listed by Chatham Area Transit as zero fare, weekdays 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and weekends 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. It links the historic district and Forsyth Park with garages and the ferry landings while it runs. It is a bad plan after 6:30 p.m. on a Saturday. The Savannah Belles Ferry runs 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week. That is a crossing to Hutchinson Island, not a shuttle to Tybee, and a resort on that island is a different night from these picks. CAT's fare page lists a one way local ride at $1.50, free transfers, and a day pass at $3.00. Route 3 from the airport is the bus the schedules page describes, and the page says it is not a direct shuttle. For a coastal city that does have a peninsula you can walk, compare Charleston luxury hotels. For a Florida Gulf base, compare Tampa luxury hotels. For the Atlantic side of north Florida, with beach resorts and a downtown river night, compare Jacksonville luxury hotels. Savannah can work without a car if the sleep is in the square grid, on Bay Street, or at Forsyth Park and the outing is one neighborhood. Add a car when the plan needs Tybee, a late ride after the DOT stops, or airport luggage you do not want on Route 3. There is no downtown rail from SAV.

How to shape the weekend

A clean luxury weekend has one sleep neighborhood and one intentional outing off that map. Land, check the official room location, and do not schedule the squares, River Street, Forsyth Park, Eastern Wharf, and Tybee on the same arrival evening. If you sleep at Perry Lane, The Drayton, Andaz, or Brice, walk one loop of squares and pick one window for the river or for the park. If you sleep at Hotel Orielle or The Alida, give the river the first night and ride to Forsyth in the morning. If you sleep at Thompson, keep Eastern Wharf as the neighborhood you already chose, and ask about the restaurants before you assume the 2021 list is intact. If you sleep at Hotel Bardo, give the park and one Starland or Victorian walk the first night, and go to the river once. Tybee is its own half day. Do not bolt it onto a one night parade trip. Valet is $60 on the FAQ and $55 or $60 by day of week in the guest directory. The pet pages disagree at $200 and $50. The footer ZIP and the directory ZIP do not match. • Hotel Orielle, Autograph Collection, 102 West Bay Street. The homepage says this was formerly the Bohemian Hotel Savannah Riverfront. A Visit Savannah release on 1 September 2026 described 75 rooms and suites, Coastal 15, and Rocks on the Roof. Book hotelorielle.com. Do not treat the Bohemian name as a second hotel.

Names that changed: the Bohemian at 102 West Bay Street is Hotel Orielle as of the hotel's own site and the 1 September 2026 Visit Savannah release. Thompson Savannah remains on its Hyatt page, and thompsonsavannah.com redirects there. We did not find a closure. Hotel Bardo is the bookable name at 700 Drayton Street. Perry Lane, The Drayton, Andaz Savannah, Kimpton Brice, and The Alida are open under those names. • Parade week, film and music festivals, and Christmas weeks tighten smaller hotels first. The Drayton describes 50 rooms. The 2026 Orielle note described 75. Brice describes 145. Andaz materials describe 151. Perry Lane describes 167. The 2021 Thompson note described 193. Compare the quieter side early on the official hotel site.
• Valet, taxes, destination fees, and pets change the total. Perry Lane lists a $32 destination fee and two valet figures, $60 plus tax and $52. Bardo lists a $49 destination fee and valet at $60 or at $55 and $60 by day. The Alida overview lists a $35 destination fee and valet language at $60 plus a weekday split. Read inclusions on the official hotel site. We do not invent live room prices.
• Savannah summers are hot. A pool is practical in July and August at the hotels that describe one, including Perry Lane, Brice, Andaz, The Alida, Thompson, and Hotel Bardo. The Drayton pages we read do not describe a pool. Plan shade and a lighter first afternoon. If heat already limits your day, ask your own clinician before a long outdoor day. A December square walk is a different plan. Prefer a flexible rate if a parade or a festival you might miss could shift the trip.

Which neighborhood fits a Savannah luxury stay?

Historic District squares suit a walking weekend when the oaks, the squares, and dinner on foot are the trip. The Perry Lane Hotel at 256 East Perry Street is the larger Luxury Collection house in that grid, with 167 rooms including 12 suites. The Drayton Hotel at 7 Drayton Street is the 50 room house beside City Hall. Andaz Savannah at 14 Barnard Street is the Ellis Square and City Market base. Kimpton Brice Hotel at 601 East Bay Street is Washington Square, close to Bay Street and River Street. Riverfront hotels suit the water first. Hotel Orielle at 102 West Bay Street is the Bay Street riverfront house, formerly the Bohemian. The Alida at 412 Williamson Street is the western riverfront beside Plant Riverside. Thompson Savannah is the Eastern Wharf lifestyle hotel, a newer waterfront neighborhood east of the historic core. Forsyth Park suits Hotel Bardo at 700 Drayton Street when the park, a pool, and a south edge base matter more than river steps. Midtown, Starland, and the Victorian side streets are real outings, and none of these picks use a Midtown address. Tybee Island is a beach day, not a square walking base. Hotels beside Savannah Hilton Head International Airport are logistics. Choose the neighborhood before you compare suite photos.

Should I choose the squares, the riverfront, Forsyth Park, or Tybee?

Choose the squares when you want to walk to dinner and you can ask for a courtyard or a higher floor. Perry Lane, The Drayton, Andaz Savannah, and Kimpton Brice all sit in that walking map, and they are not the same block. Perry Lane is deeper in the grid. The Drayton faces City Hall. Andaz faces Ellis Square. Brice sits on Washington Square near Bay Street, so parade and River Street sound reach it faster. Choose the riverfront when the water, Bay Street, or a newer wharf is the point. Hotel Orielle is on Bay Street. The Alida is on Williamson Street. Thompson Savannah is at Eastern Wharf, and the 2 August 2021 Hyatt opening release described it at the junction of the Historic District and that newer neighborhood. Choose Forsyth Park and Hotel Bardo when the south edge, a 25 meter pool, and Saltgrass Spa matter, and you will ride or use the free DOT shuttle when the river is the outing. Choose Tybee only as a day, or as a different resort trip that gives up the squares at night. Confirm fees and cancellation on each official site.

How loud is River Street compared with a square or Forsyth Park?

River Street and the Bay Street edge can run loud on weekend nights, on festival nights, and through the St. Patrick's Day weekend. The City of Savannah parade page for 2026 placed the parade on Tuesday 17 March 2026, with route closures and towing that started overnight. Those hours have passed. The pattern remains a civic night on the river side of the grid. Hotel Orielle at 102 West Bay Street and Kimpton Brice at 601 East Bay Street sit in that louder band. Andaz Savannah faces Ellis Square and City Market, which is social without being the cobblestones of River Street. The Drayton at 7 Drayton Street is beside City Hall and the river approach, so ask which rooms face the dome and which face a quieter side. Perry Lane at 256 East Perry Street is farther south in the square grid. Hotel Bardo on Forsyth Park is usually the calmer sleep, and it is still a social hotel: the pool, Saint Bibiana, and Club Bardo are the appeal. Thompson Savannah at Eastern Wharf is off the densest River Street bars and can still be lively on its own pool deck. We do not invent noise scores. Ask the hotel when you book.

When should I book for St. Patrick's Day, festivals, and holiday weekends?

St. Patrick's Day is the inventory shock with a street map attached. The City of Savannah parade page for 2026 placed the parade on Tuesday 17 March 2026, immediately after Mass at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. It said vehicles could be towed from the route, staging, and disband areas as early as 12:01 a.m. that day, that the route would close at 8:00 a.m., and that Bay Street would close for the parade at 9:00 a.m. As of 15 October 2026 those hours have passed. The parade is an annual 17 March event. Confirm the next closures on savannahga.gov before you hold a prepaid rate for the usual week. Visit Savannah's getting around page names the SCAD Savannah Film Festival, the Savannah Music Festival, and Savannah Holly Days as events that can affect garage and street parking. We do not publish those calendars here. River and Bay Street hotels feel the parade first. Perry Lane describes 167 rooms. The Drayton describes 50. Kimpton Brice describes 145. Do I need a car from SAV, or is the bus enough?

A Historic District, Bay Street, or Forsyth Park stay can work with walking, the free DOT shuttle, and rideshare for the squares, one river evening, and one Forsyth morning. There is no downtown rail from Savannah Hilton Head International Airport. Chatham Area Transit says Route 3 West Chatham connects the airport with the Joe Murray Rivers, Jr. Intermodal Transit Center downtown, and that this is not a direct airport shuttle. After 31 August 2026 the schedule page lists a weekday bus cut and tripper hours of 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., with no weekend change on that note. The fare page lists a one way local fare of $1.50, free transfers, and a day pass of $3.00. The DOT Express Shuttle is the free downtown loop: weekdays 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., weekends 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. It does not cover a late Saturday night. The Savannah Belles Ferry runs 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days, which is a river crossing, not a hotel shuttle. Perry Lane's FAQ describes the airport as 13 miles away and a taxi at about $30 one way. The Alida overview lists the airport as 6.0 miles and says the hotel does not provide a shuttle. Those notes do not match. Use both as each hotel's planning line, not as a promise for your arrival hour. A car helps with airport luggage, Tybee, and a late return after the DOT has stopped. Should I choose a riverfront hotel or a Forsyth Park resort?

Choose Hotel Orielle, The Alida, or Thompson Savannah when the river is the day and you accept a walk or a short ride into the squares. Orielle is the Bay Street house and the former Bohemian. The Alida is the Williamson Street house beside Plant Riverside, with a pool deck and a destination fee the overview lists at $35. Thompson is the Eastern Wharf house. The 2021 opening release named Fleeting, Bar Julian, and the Sunroom. Ask which of those are open before you treat a 2021 restaurant as tonight's plan. Choose Hotel Bardo when Forsyth Park is the front yard. The FAQ describes a 25 meter heated outdoor pool, Saltgrass Spa, check in at 4 p.m., a $49 destination amenity fee, and a 48 hour cancellation rule. The river is an outing from there, not the lobby. Choose Perry Lane, The Drayton, Andaz, or Brice when you want to sleep inside the square grid itself. Public rooms at a river restaurant hotel can be lively. What happened to the Bohemian, and are these hotels still open under these names?

The Bohemian Hotel Savannah Riverfront is now Hotel Orielle. The hotel's own site says it was formerly the Bohemian and gives the address as 102 West Bay Street. A Visit Savannah release dated 1 September 2026 said the 75 room hotel had taken the Orielle name and remained an Autograph Collection hotel, with Coastal 15 and Rocks on the Roof. Book at hotelorielle.com. Do not treat an old Bohemian listing as a separate hotel. Thompson Savannah is open on its Hyatt page. thompsonsavannah.com redirects into Hyatt. The 2 August 2021 opening release described 193 guestrooms including 21 suites at Eastern Wharf. We did not find a closure notice as of 15 October 2026.
